Directions to Brown University Physics Department

Air:

• Flights into Providence-T F Green Airport (PVD) - the Department is a 15 min taxi ride away.
  This is the preferred airport given the faster security, and proximity to the Department. The additional change (if less than 4 hours additonal wait/flying at a hub) for flights to PVD is usually less aggravation than coming direct to Logan (see below). In addition, I will definitely be able to meet you at the airport.
• Also Boston-Logan (BOS) - the Bonanza Bus runs a regular service (takes ~1 hour 15 mins) to Providence Bus Terminal, and then 15 min taxi to the Department

Amtrak:

• Regular services to/from Boston Central (45 mins) and New York-Penn (NYP) Station (2 hours 50 mins) to Providence (PVD)
  I recommend Acela Express - more comfortable & faster than the standard commuter trains which also run regularly.
  Location of Amtrak station in central Providence is shown on the map below. Take a 5 min taxi to the Dept. from outside the station.

Driving Directions from the NORTH:

• Take I-95 SOUTH to Providence.
  (From Boston or Cambridge, take I-93 SOUTH [= southeast expressway] to the end, then pick up I95 SOUTH)
• Take Exit 24 --- Branch Avenue.
• Turn LEFT at STOP sign onto Branch Ave.
• At traffic light continue STRAIGHT ACROSS N. Main St.
  (Continuation of Branch Ave. is called Cypress St. You will pass a Kentucky Fried Chicken on the opposite right corner.)
• Follow Cypress St. up hill, over the top, until you reach a stop sign.
• Turn RIGHT at STOP sign onto Hope Street. (You are heading SOUTH).
  (Pass five traffic lights, then George is next street.)
  -> N.B.: After the second light and passing a high school on the right,
  there is a fork in the road: Hope Street BEARS LEFT.
• Physics (Barus & Holley) is on the NORTHWEST corner of Hope & George St.
  

Driving Directions from the SOUTH

• Take I-95 NORTH to Providence.
• Take Exit 20 --- I-195 EAST.
  (This exit sneaks up on you, so be ready for it, once you see the Providence Bay to your right, and the Financial District High rise buildings in the distance you are <1 mile from the turning)
• After 0.6 mi Take Exit 2 off I-195 --- Wickenden St.
• Turn LEFT at light onto Wickenden.
• Pass two traffic lights, then Hope is next LEFT .
• Turn LEFT onto Hope St. (You are heading NORTH) - See Map below
• Physics (Barus & Holley) is on the NORTHWEST corner of Hope & George St.
  

If you miss the above turning ...

• Merge onto US-6 E / Memorial Blvd via Exit 22A toward Downtown (go 0.75 mi)
• After 0.75 mi Turn LEFT onto Washington Pl
• After <0.1 mi Washington Pl becomes Waterman St
• After 0.6 mi Turn RIGHT onto Hope St.
• Physics (Barus & Holley) is on the NORTHWEST corner of Hope & George St.

PARKING

(Entrance in George St) If the white barrier arm is up, you should park anywhere in front of the building. If the barrier is down, you will need a permit, and an electronic pass for the gate (which should be arranged in advance).

In most circumstances it will be quicker to park (see blue highlights on map below) on Manning St (usually spaces before 9 am) / East Manning St. (if you arrive after 9 am) Make sure you park in the regions marked for all day parking (typically North Side of street)
